National Nederlanden Administrative Building

Constructed: 1992-1996

Archtitects: Frank O. Gehry, Vlado Milunic

This controversal building pulls of the delicate task of being completely radical, while somehow integrating with the surrounding architecture in a playful and meaningful manner. The problem with much of the new computer aided design(not just architecture, but graphic design as well) is that too often the digital tools and how one interfaces with them control the final form, instead of a form arising out of some internal necessity. While many of new architects, who have falllen under the sway of CAD design can be found guilty of producing blob design- Gehry's Seattle EMP definitely fits in that catagory; this building manages in some seven stories to capture the grace and style of fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers dancing the Lindy Hop. Prague has always been a jazz town, with buildings of character- the Fred and Ginger building continues in that tradition.
